Narowal is set to receive its first fleet of green electric buses, as the Punjab Government has delivered 11 electric buses to the district under its clean and modern public transport initiative. The new service is expected to become operational in July 2026, offering residents an affordable and environmentally friendly travel option.
According to officials, the buses will initially operate on six major routes, connecting Narowal with nearby towns and improving daily travel for commuters. The move is part of the provincial government’s broader plan to modernize public transport while reducing fuel consumption and air pollution.
Electric Bus Routes in Narowal
During the first phase, the buses will serve passengers travelling between Narowal and several surrounding areas, including:
- Shakargarh
- Zafarwal
- Qila Ahmadabad
- Qila Kalar Wala
- Badomalhi
Officials have also confirmed that a dedicated intra-city electric bus service is being planned to improve transportation within Narowal city.

Fare Fixed at Rs. 20
To make public transport more accessible, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has fixed the fare at Rs. 20 per trip. The low fare is expected to benefit students, office workers, and daily commuters who rely on public transport for regular travel.
The affordable pricing is part of the Punjab Government’s effort to encourage more people to use environmentally friendly transport instead of private vehicles.
Energy-Efficient Transport for Punjab
Each electric bus can travel around 80 kilometers on a single charge, providing an energy-efficient alternative to conventional diesel-powered buses. Besides reducing operating costs, electric buses also help lower carbon emissions and improve urban air quality.
The introduction of these vehicles reflects Punjab’s growing focus on sustainable transportation and cleaner energy solutions.
More Electric Buses Planned
Officials have indicated that this is only the beginning of Narowal’s electric transport network. The Punjab Government plans to add more electric buses in future phases to expand route coverage and meet the growing demand for reliable public transportation.
The expansion is expected to improve connectivity across the district while giving residents access to safer, modern, and cost-effective travel facilities.
